Paste and bring things in
Pictures, SVGs, text, HTML and whole web pages — all as layers you can edit.
Paste with ⌘V, or drag files onto the canvas. Whatever you paste goes into the selected frame, or the frame under the pointer — not loose on the canvas next to it.
- ⌘V — paste.
- ⇧⌘V — paste on top, exactly where the copy came from.
- ⇧⌘R — paste to replace the selection.
What you can paste
SVGs
Copy an SVG from a website, an icon set or another design tool and paste it. Every shape becomes its own layer, gradients included, so you can click straight into a single shape and recolour it. Parts that SVG draws in ways layers can't — text, pictures, anything masked, clipped or blurred — stay as exact SVG pieces that still move and resize. Resizing the whole SVG scales everything in it.
An SVG kept whole can be taken apart later: right-click → Edit as shapes.
HTML
Copy part of a web page, an email or a document and paste it. Its structure comes in as frames and text with their layout, colours and type — ready to edit like anything you drew.
Pictures and text
Paste or drop images at full size; drag a corner to scale them. Double-click a picture to move it inside its frame. Pasted plain text becomes a text layer.
Whole web pages
Ask your agent to bring a page in by its file or address — “bring in ~/sites/forma/index.html and match it exactly.” Gesso reads the page the way the browser draws it, so it lands within a pixel of the original, every section, picture and line of text a layer.
Glows
Soft glows painted into a background come out as their own Glow layers, so you can click, move, resize and recolour them. For designs made before this: right-click → Make glows into layers.
Not yet
Pasting from Figma, and a browser extension that captures any live page, aren't here yet. Your agent can bring pages in today.
